Business partners Nick Clover and Mike Gardner met back in the summer of 2015. Nick already had a successful business placing permanent hospitality candidates into exciting High Street restaurants across the UK.
Mike was looking for a new challenge after growing through the ranks of the UK’s biggest temp hospitality agency. Both had similar values and a passion for doing things the right way, people over profit. Realising there was a gap in the market for an agency with the same ethos, Appetite4Work was born with Mike as operational MD.
Starting initially in London, we had our first chef working just over a week later and quickly landed several more clients including Wembley Stadium. Since then the team has grown steadily and we now cover London, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Berkshire. All the way through we have maintained a commitment to ensuring that our people get looked after properly whether they’re part of our office team or picking up a 4 hour shift.

Mike Gardner
Managing Director
Mike started A4W in 2015 after an early career in Hospitality and Travel followed by 12 years with one of the national agencies. Mike's main role these days is setting the strategy of the business, client development and looking after the team. Day to day he’s still hands on at check-in’s and on site. Michelle Grant
Operations Director
Michelle has been with us since the very early days, Michelle joined us after a varied career spanning recruitment, sales and running a nursery! She’s now responsible for Client relationships. Business Development and the onboarding and integration of new starters.
Aaron Barnett
Operations Manager (London)
Aaron joined A4W after 10 years working in restaurant management with some of the big names on the high street and some time in recruitment with another agency. Since returning from Maternity leave Ella now looks after front of house staffing requirements across Sussex and Kent. Emily Simmons
Finance Manager
Emily came on board from being administration manager for a local firm in Godalming. After a brief spell away during Covid we were fortunate to get Emily back to head up our finance department - making her the most important person in the business! She’s the one sending the invoices, paying everyone, and chasing payments!

Vilina started her career with an F+B internship in Miami before breaking into recruitment in 2019. After a break during Covid, Vilina joined us in 2021 quickly becoming an integral part of the team. Will Burden
Recruitment and Staffing Assistant (Surrey and Hampshire)
Will honed his hospitality skills as an ambitious trainee GM at an independent pub, before moving onto manage and be the face of a high end community café in Surrey. Moving into Recruitment with us in 2022, Will now recruits Chefs across Surrey and Hampshire for a variety of great establishments!

Chloe displayed an early work ethic taking jobs during school including babysitting, shop assistant and later bar work in a local members club. Initially joining us as a staffing and recruitment assistant Chloe later found her niche in payroll and running our busy helpdesk, making sure our team receive fast replies to their queries.
Rafi Sheikh
